to president obama, congressman ryan says he does not think republicans are in a political wilderness since they control the house of representatives and most state legislators. rick? >> rick: do other leaders in the republican party agree with congressman ryan? i know there has been a big meeting going on, discussing the future of the party. what is everybody else saying? >> reporter: certainly a number of republicans are finding their voice again and the party seems to be doing soul-searching. louisiana republican governor bobby jindal, another g.o.p. presidential candidate in 2016 said the g.o.p. needs to put forth a clearer economic message. >> we must not be the party that simply protects the well off so they can keep their toys, we have to be the party that shows all americans how they can thrive and whose ideas will help the middle class and folks join the middle class and we are a populist party and need to make it clear to every voter and every american. >> reporter: today congressman ryan said republicans need to, quote, convince the country to change course economically to avoid

and in the obama administration for political reasons hav they have not wanteo release that regulation. so eve on youth and has gone as a nonprofit out to try to digitize the vital records, make that accessible to driver's license issuing agencies, and any other agency that needs it. it's the one piece of real id that has not come in well. and the states have complained that it is a cost issue. and i would love to hear your response to the issue of the cost of eve. because her us on the 9/11 commission's ipod, checking against that fraud of the birth certificate is one of the most vital things you can do is to check the vital records. he has done a tremendous job in digitizing those records, the ones i've gotten have been tremendous. what exactly are the issues with the states in terms of not implementing that these are real id? >> well, let me pashtun exactly. i'll just give you a delaware perspective of eve. and i think was alluded to before, it is extreme complicated where you have, we have a known number of jurisdictions issuing driver's license. there so many different levels of technolog

and sounded like a grouch attacking president obama. a very political speech which i thought was discordant yesterday. there were two -- captain kelly, gabby giffords's husband, and the captain of the bald moore county sheriff's department james johnson who spoke very powerfully articulately and eloquently for common sense gun control measures, and then the other side of the panel, there were three gun nuts on the panel. david coppel, a professor from denver, a woman gail trotter, and wayne lapierre from the nra. gail trotter was out of her mine. i mean, she said guns -- i got the exact quote here -- that guns have to -- guns keep women safe. guns keep women safe. guns make women safe is the exact quote. and every mother needs an ak-15 in the home to protect their kids. and of course wayne lapierre comes back and says the only answer is we have to make every school an armed camp. >> it's time to throw an immediate blanket of security around our children. about a third of our schools right now have armed security already, because it works, and that somebody is grow

connell. >> some have said it was it was indelicate of me to suggest that our top political priority over the next two years should be to deny president obama a second term. but the fact is, if our primary legislative goals are to repeal and replace the health spending bill, to end the bailouts, cut spending and shrink the size and scope of government, the only way to do all of those things is to put someone in the white house who won't veto any of these things. >> after that, democrats worried republicans were trying to annihilate the democratic party, in part by trying to destroy unions, the most vivid example of that, wisconsin. the republican governor successfully pushed a bill that stripped collective bargaining rights for most public unions. ohio and michigan followed scott walker's lead with mixed success. and now it seems the tables have turned. now if you believe boehner, the democrats want to annihilate the gop. so the talkback question for you, do you agree with boehner? will obama try to annihilate the republican party? facebook.com/carolcnn, or tweet me @carolcnn. i'll be right back.

as imimprobable, because we had that long, hard primary campaign. in politics and democracies, sometimes you win elections, and sometimes you lose elections. i worked very hard, but i lost and president obama asked me to be secretary of state. said yes. why? because we both love our country. >> this interview will air on sunday. the fact that they did this joint interview, surprising to you? did you read anything into it? >> they have certainly come a long way from unity. standing there with clenched smiles. but what you saw there, they both have gone past it, principles on both sides, they like each other, trust each other. not best friends, but i think the president wanted to do something nice for her, the most traveled secretary of state, done a lot for him this is his way of giving her a big nod. >> in addition, do you think the president thinks he owes the clinton politically? >> no doubt he owes them for certain things. for him coming along during the first administration, his work during the re-election campaign. they can take credit for helping him along. whether he owes them remains to

's reelection campaign. zuckerberg has never made a political campaign donation and openly discussed politics. he did donate $100 million to knee newark schools and supports christie's education reforms. >> barbosa went to a president dinner president obama. >> finally, earlier this week, we talked about the new board first fees being instituted by southwest airlines known for not charging fees like bag fees. on that point, ceo of the airline said yesterday, never say never. gary kelly said they have no plans to institute bag fees but if customers say they would prefer to have extra fees rather than everything being bundled in the ticket us price, they could institute bag fees in the future. >> my advice is keep it the way it is don't fix what ain't broke. >> that might be their biggest selling point. >> there is a reason why every flight is full. it's good service. they don't put the extra stupid fees on there. president obama on mopped, again, i call it a liberal manifesto. my new column about the president's inaugural address is up on the website. he point
